RWW 51: Olympics Dovetails, Pins or Tails?

This episode I turn my attention to the hallowed dovetail joint. So many woodworkers approach this joint with trepidation. I was among those people until I finally jumped in and tried it out. Once I have actually cut a set I realized that I was making it too complicated and psyching myself out. Essentially this is a sawing exercise and you shouldn’t have to spend too much time with a chisel in hand to clean up the joint.

Now let’s see how many people I alienate by admitting that I cut my dovetails pins first…

Enjoy the show!

By the way, special thanks to Chuck Bender for showing me the dovetail light!

    Shannon,
The clock starts when you start. This includes layout. The same is true for the tenon. We need to keep things moving along or there won’t be enough time for people to compete. The marketplace is open from 8 until 6 so we have 10 hours, we plan to run all day (any volunteers?) at 6 minutes per dovetail we could have 100 people compete. We will probably have 2 stations and still only get through about 80.( If no one shows up that won’t be a problem!) No one will be rushed, you can work at your own speed, but you will be timed. Keep in mind that the person judged the winner receives a prize and a competitor selected randomly wins a prize so participation is paramount! The main goal is to have fun and do some woodworking together.
Bring Bob Costas and do some interviews!!
